A host essentially acts as a caretaker for the resident. In some cases the resident may need a very low level of care, in other cases a resident may be bedridden and need a lot of care. You can accept residents based on your experience and qualification level.

How to become a Host with Carehosts.com?

Carehosts is currently only available in Washington State due to regulatory licensing requirements. Carehosts.com will be soon be available in all 50 states. Check back regularly for updates.

There are no licensing requirements to host on Carehosts.com when you only provide care for one resident in your home in Washington State. Because of this you can get started right away! It is advisable for a host to have basic certifications like CPR + First Aid, Essentials of Caregiving, TB testing, Food Handlers card, and other potentially beneficial certifications. Certifications are advisable but not a state requirement for private pay residents. If you would like to accept state pay residents there are certification requirements that a host must go through in order to be eligible to receive payment for care from the state.

When you sign up you will first need to undergo a thorough background check before your listing can go live. The State of Washington has specific requirements for individuals who have unsupervised access to vulnerable individuals. More information can be found at the state website at the following link: https://www.dshs.wa.gov/ffa/disqualifying-list-crimes-and-negative-actions once you submit your information our secure third-party background testing service will notify us if you qualify under the states guidelines to have unsupervised access to a vulnerable individual. 

While you are waiting on your results you can do the following steps to get a head start on creating your listing.

  1. Create your listing 
    It’s free and easy to create a listing on Carehosts. Describe your space, add photos certifications, and other details. (For the safety of our clients, certifications that you claim will be verified by our admin team or a third party verification service.)

    Once you are approved as a host you will be able to communicate with potential residents and begin the relationship. It's important to build trust and meet the person and their family prior to deciding on whether or not you will be able to provide a space for an individual based on their needs and your qualifications as a host. 
  2. Get to know future residents 
    Get to know residents before arrival by communicating with them using our platform's messaging functions. Most hosts clean the spaces residents can use, provide essentials like clean sheets, towels, and toilet paper, providing 3 rounded meals a day for their residents as well. Each residents needs are different and varying arrangements can be made so long as the Host provides a level of care that meets or exceeds the client's needs and any state or federal requirements.
  3. Get paid 
    Carehosts secure payment system means you never have to deal with billing directly. Residents are charged before arrival by our billing system, and you are paid automatically a few days after check in, less any fees that are pending collection from the host. (Please see our terms of services for a list of our fees.) You can be paid via Stripe, Paypal, (ACH will be available soon) and in some cases, we can a check by mail.
